On November 3, 2026, Google rolled out Attributed Branded Searches, a free always-on measurement tool that tracks how many users searched for your brand on Google or YouTube after seeing one of your Demand Gen or YouTube ads. For ecommerce brands running upper-funnel video or visual prospecting campaigns, this feature closes a critical measurement gap: you can now see how many branded searches your video and visual ads are generating, with zero additional setup cost.
Attributed Branded Searches work by connecting a user's brand search query back to a prior Demand Gen or YouTube Video ad exposure. When someone sees your video ad and then searches for your brand within a defined attribution window, that search is counted as an attributed branded search and reported in your Goals dashboard. This gives 7-9 figure ecommerce brands a concrete way to defend upper-funnel video spend to leadership, showing that awareness campaigns generate measurable search intent downstream.
Historically, Demand Gen and YouTube Video campaigns lived in a measurement black box. ROAS on these campaigns looked weaker than it actually was because the downstream branded search lift was invisible. Google's timing is deliberate: with BFCM less than four weeks away, brands need to know whether their awareness spend is working before they scale into the most competitive ad auction period of the year.
Brands that enable this tracking now will have several weeks of attribution data before Black Friday, letting them make informed budget decisions across upper and lower funnel. Brands that skip it will head into BFCM flying blind on their video ROI. Keep this in mind as you track every Google Ads change in 2026.
Google placed this measurement type in a specific location that many advertisers will miss. Navigate to Goals > Summary > Consideration in your Google Ads account. Attributed Branded Searches will appear as a new conversion type row. You can also see this data as a segmented row under the All Conv. column in your campaign reports, filtered by conversion action name.
No pixel setup is required. The attribution is handled server-side by Google, using the same signed-in audience matching infrastructure that powers other Google measurement products. If you have brand keyword campaigns already running in your Google Ads account, those brand search queries are already being captured, you just had no way to attribute them to upper-funnel campaigns before today.
Google applies its standard engagement-based attribution windows to Attributed Branded Searches. For Demand Gen campaigns, the default is a 30-day click-through and 1-day view-through window. For YouTube Video campaigns, it matches the view-through window you have set for the campaign. You can review and adjust these windows in your conversion settings without affecting the core functionality of the feature.
One important note: Attributed Branded Searches are reported as a separate conversion type and do not get combined into your existing ROAS calculations. They show alongside your purchase conversions but are categorized under "Consideration" rather than "Purchase," which means they will not inflate your reported ROAS. This is by design, and it's the right call: branded search lift is a leading indicator, not a revenue event.
For 7-9 figure ecommerce brands running Demand Gen alongside Performance Max, Attributed Branded Searches open up a new optimization lever. Previously, the only signal from Demand Gen was purchase conversions and view-through metrics, both of which are noisy and hard to defend. Now you have a mid-funnel metric that sits between an ad view and a purchase, specifically branded search volume generated by your upper-funnel creative.
Brands that see strong Attributed Branded Search numbers but weak Demand Gen purchase conversions should interpret that as a signal to tighten the funnel, not cut the budget. The awareness is working. The landing page, offer, or retargeting chain downstream may be the actual constraint. This insight changes where you should invest in troubleshooting. Attributed Branded Searches is a free, always-on measurement conversion type that tracks how many users searched for your brand name on Google or YouTube after seeing one of your Demand Gen or YouTube Video ads. It surfaces in Goals > Summary > Consideration and in the All Conv. column of your campaign reports.
No. Attributed Branded Searches are categorized as a "Consideration" conversion type, not a "Purchase" conversion. They are reported separately and do not get included in your purchase ROAS calculations. They are a leading indicator of awareness effectiveness, not a revenue metric.
As of November 3, 2026, Attributed Branded Searches are attributed from Demand Gen and YouTube Video campaign types. Performance Max campaigns and Search campaigns are not currently listed as attribution sources for this measurement type.
Compare Attributed Branded Search volume across your Demand Gen and YouTube Video campaigns to identify which format drives the most branded search intent per dollar spent. Use this to guide budget allocation decisions going into BFCM, and use the data as evidence to protect upper-funnel budgets if leadership pushes for ROAS-only optimization during the peak period.
